Lomza from its beginningsThe City of Lomza, situated on the left bank of the Narew River, was founded in approximately 1000CE, to the south of its present location. The original site is still inhabited, occupied by a village called to this day “Stara Lomza” (“Old Lomza”), which has an old church, the construction of which historians attribute to a Benedictine monk who came to Mazovia in the eleventh century to convert what was then a pagan population.
